The Guilt of Bieng a Working Mom

I was watching Queen Rania during her discussion at Yale university and a question she was asked really bothered me.

Females are always asked this question especially women in big leadership roles and who happen to also be mothers. They are always asked:” How do you balance your work and family and how do you do it as a mother?”

Why is this question never asked of men?

It’s really frustrating for women to always be asked this question because it kind of makes them feel that although they are very successful , they have most probably neglected their kids to reach their goals, so how do they balance?

Men are never thought of as neglecting their kids, they are patted on the back and told, wow what a great provider you are , what a great man.

One of the reasons that this bothers me is that most women have no choice. In this expensive day and age most women are working involuntarily, they work to put food on the table. The days of one income households is coming to an end sooner and sooner , it is so expensive and difficult to only live on the mans income alone so most women have no choice BUT to work.

And no choice but to feel guilty for not being good moms.
So I say enough with the guilt. Women feel so much guilt about this issue from everywhere, media , articles, studies, even friends and family and most frustratingly from other women too.

They are made to feel, hey you are a successful leader but you know what, how do you do it, maybe you are not as good of a mother as you are a good leader.
I hope that one day there will be a tipping point, the tipping point that will make people see that it’s not only the woman who has to balance work and family, it’s also the mans duty. I am waiting for the day when kings are also asked, how do you balance work and family.

It’s about time men feel the guilt for a change.

On Coming Back to Work and Such

So I am back in the work force and it took me a record 3 days to realize that although I am excited to be back at work and that I missed it there is a list of things that I have not missed:

1) Committing every speeding violation to drop little 7aki off to the daycare and still make the train that would get me to work at a reasonable time because sauntering in at 9:30 and leaving at 4:00 is apparently “Not Kosher”.

I am pretending that this is my car

I am pretending that this is my car

2) Still wanting to bitch slap the train riders. HELLOOOOO, news flash, I HAVE PERSONAL SPACE MOFOS, please don’t pretend that I am not sitting in front of you and your STUPID EFFING PURSE is touching my legs, move it Beeeatch.

.
And to you who are sitting next to me, NO , it’s not OK to keep moving your STUPID ELBOWS and touch me every once in a while.

.
And to you back pack carrier. Who , in this day and age, STILL carries a back pack? You are out of elementary school, you should upgrade to different kind of bag …  but I digress. When you are walking to get to your seat please  FOR THE LOVE OF GOD carry your back pack with your hand because honestly I don’t like to be smacked in the head with a MOFO back pack.

Everybody is invading my personal space

Everybody is invading my personal space

3) The crazies on the subway and street.
Need I say more.
There are LOTS OF THEM in down town Toronto for some reason. In the suburbs we truly live in a cocoon.

OMG there is a guy who looks EXACTLY like that, minus the detonator

OMG there is a guy who looks EXACTLY like that, minus the detonator

4) You know what is sadder than all of the above? That at this point I hadn’t made it to work yet.

killme

This is me when I reach work

5) I like the work part.

6) And then rinse and repeat all of the above in reverse order to get back home.

How i feel but instead of rocks there are trains, people and crazies falling on my head

Why In The Heck Do They Still Exist

Bowling shoes are sooooo gross.

zfp-bowl-big

Why do we need to still in this day and age wear them? They gross me out and give me the heebie jeebies.

Speaking of the heebie jeebies, who came up with this term?

But I digress. Can’t they like invent a better bowling floor that does not need those gross shoes?

All I can think about while I put those shoes on is the gross person who forgot to bring socks with them and wore those shoes right before I did.

Shoes are like underwear, they never should be shared. Who’s with me on this one?

A Mystery That Will Never Be Solved

This mystery has been plaguing me since I got married.

Well you see, before I got married I never did any laundry so I didn’t even know that this problem existed.

The mystery of the disappearing socks.

Seriously. When I collect the laundry MYSELF and wash it MYSELF and then dry it MYSELF  why is there always at least one orphan sock that does not have a brother (or a sister)?

Where do those socks go? Seriously people, WHERE?

The only theory I can think of is that there is a sock black hole in the washer or dryer that sucks the socks into a different dimension, and that black hole takes the socks to these peoples washing machines where these people are wondering :” Where the heck did this sock come from?”.

You know what would be nice? If these people only had one  foot because they would appreciate the mystery sock. If they had two feet then they would be like, WTF, why did I get this one stupid sock.

Despite this conundrum I always hold out hope of reuniting those orphans with their siblings and that’s why I established a sock orphanage where all those lonely mate-less socks reside in the hope of them being some day reunited with their siblings.

But the sad truth is that based on very reliable statistics the probability of those socks being reunited with their siblings is slim to none.

District 9

District9

The whole movie was under raps until it was released and I think it was easy to keep it under raps because all the cast were new actors or actors who never were in a major picture.

The lead actor , Sharlto Copley did such a phenomenal job!  He effortlessly went from a nobody, to a person drunk on power to a unlikly hero.

District 9

The aliens , who looked wicked, landed on earth and they were put in a refugee camp for over 20 years which turned into a ghetto were crime thrived.

The movie discusses xenophobia and social segregation and according to Wikipedia “It was inspired by historical events that took place in South Africa during the apartheid in a residential area of Cape Town named District Six.”

A message that resonated with me is that everybody are capable of racism even if they suffered from racism themselves.

Loved it and I will buy it and I hope there will be a sequel :D .

Wish You Well

I am back to reading, gearing up to go back to work. Oiling those rusty gears in my brain.

About a week ago I finished reading the book “Wish You Well” by David Baldacci.

Beldacci is well known for his suspense books and this book was quite a departure from his usual style.

The story loosely chronicles and is based on his family story and is the story of Louisa Mae Cardinal a twelve year girl who aspires to be an author just like her father and her little brother Oz who is shy and has not lost his innocence yet.

I really enjoyed this book, It was an easy read that made you want ot flip the page and keep reading, to watch the characters change and develop.

It was a book about tragedy ,hope ,hardship and love and the author was very succesful in conveying those feelings. I felt every single emotion clearly and I enjoyed this book immensely.

The book moved me and I give it a two thumbs up.

To Why I Need to Go Back to Work

Wake up at 8 am , dress little 7aki to get her ready for her first day of school.

We get to the school and little 7aki is very excited

Me to the teacher: Good morning!

Teacher: Good morning.

Teacher is a bit puzzled. She took a look at the schedule.

Teacher: When is little 7aki supposed to be in, Tuesdays or Wednesdays?

Me very confidently with a big smile on my face (it’s been a loooooong summer): Mondays and Wednesdays!

Teacher: She is not supposed to be here today.

Me: Ha? But it’s Wednesday and today is the first day.

Teacher: Today is Tuesday.

Me trying hard to find a rock to crawl under: He he hu hu ha ..ha… really? He he, I thought it was Wednesday.

And we exited the school as little 7aki said, silly mama.

………

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA. I really need to stimulate my brain peoples.

Goodbye

Goodbye_Goodbye

A beautiful soul has passed away
away from fear, away from pain

A beautiful soul left love behind
for us to hold, for us to find

A beautiful soul that made us smile
gave us love for life all of the time

A beautiful soul, she will be missed
as our souls, they were touched by

A beautiful soul,
a beautiful heart,
a beautiful life,
a beautiful mind…..

Farewell M.L. ’til we meet again…
