A dose of insanity: A Spot of Bother

The book A Spot Of Bother by Mark Haddon is Brilliant!

I decided that from now on every book written by this Author will be read and the decision is final.

He has this talent of describing everything so well that you actually feel you are in the characters heads , you feel what they feel and you see what they see and you relate to every single one even if they were the complete opposite of you.

The story is about a dysfunctional family (which family isn’t) and the events surrounding the marriage of the rebel daughter Katie to Ray who is by the family standards just wrong.

The book begins with the 61 year old Father George who finds a weird spot on his hip which he is convinced is cancer and he starts slowly but surly and hilariously losing his mind. The way Haddon describes him loosing his mind is funny and touching and just amusing that you think going crazy is actually fun.

The dysfunction is complete with Joan the cheating mother and Jamie the gay brother.

I want to just tell you the whole story here but I don’t want to ruin it. Go buy the book and be ready to laugh out loud and be lost and absorbed by this family drama.

A must must read, 5/5.

  2. is out in paper back yet?
    I love the author

  3. Yes sister, I got it on paperback 😀

  4. I love disfunctional family books and movies! maybe I’ll make this one of my “in-between” book club reads once I get through the Jen Lancaster books.

Let us know what you thought of Me Talk Pretty One Day, I was planning on getting it until the lady at the bookstore told on a scale of 1 to 10 she’d give it like a 6 and so I got The Lovely Bones instead because she gave it a 9.5 (which I lost, I have no clue where that book is).

  5. Will post about it 🙂 . But I would give it a 7.5. It starts slow but then it gets really funny at some parts, he’s really good at poking fun at himself, very light hearted read.

I LOVED the lovely bones, you better find it 😀 .

SO SO SO shadow of the wind I am lovin it so far, I am at page 160 or something. Inti?

  6. Ladies

I tried to go buy shadow of the wind. Not found in any bookstore here for some reason. That’s two different chains in UAE.

Anyhow I did manage to get a spot of bother. So when you start reading that let me know.

Instead of shadow of the wind I bought A place called here by cecilia Ahern – author of ps i love you

    *sigh*

We have a day off tomorrow.

The only good thing that’s ever come out of Bush’s time in office. A day off.

    HEHE

  7. inmotion, why don’t you try to find 1984 by george orwell? that’s the next one the book club will be reading.

7aki, shadow of the wind is a page turner, I’m now on p.110 and I think I’ll post soon-this evening sometime.

So would you then agree that i should purchase (or repurchase in my case) the lovely bones over me talk pretty one day?

  8. Yes lovely bones is better than me talk pretty one day 🙂

  9. but I really want to read shadow of the wind now 😦

it sounds like its good to read

what’s this business about george orwell?

    what’s that book about?

  10. If you have not read 1984 YOU HAVE to buy it then. It’s a great book.

You know , maybe you can order all these books on Amazon, you seem like a fast reader so order shadow of the wind and 1984.

  11. 7aki .. it takes like minimum four weeks to get a delivery from amazon here ..
